I've recently been playing around with Twitter, and while I'm far from the first I quite enjoy it. Following not just friends, but celebrities such as @wossy and @stephenfry, as well as industry bloggers with their fingers in many net-based-pies (@chrisbrogan, @dubber) has given me some scope of how it can be used.
Here's the catch - as with every social networking tool, Twitter only works if you have enough followers to actually be reading what you post. With that in mind, I wanted to get some idea of how many people are currently using the site, and would be interested in how the RGR project is progressing.
If you're not using it already, I would urge to go and give it a try. It takes a few days to get used to (like MySpace and Facebook did when you first got them), but it's pretty addictive and with plugins like Twitterfox it sits in your status bar and doesn't even bother you unless you want it to. Simple! I can be followed here, and I want to point out that I'm merely interested in new internet fads, I haven't been paid or held at gunpoint to write this blog.
Update (01/03/09): I am now a full Twitter convert, with enough followers/follow...ees? to understand the power of the site. I have also reclaimed @eltonbear as my personal account, although The Reckless General now has his own account for all project-related news.
Ps. If you're still not sure if Twitter has enough users, try this guy. He's travelling the world using ONLY resources found on Twitter. This means that if none of his followers offer him a bed, he'll be sleeping rough. He's not just a looney though, he's doing it for charity.
